AMACS HOLDS 41ST ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING AND APPOINTS NEW COMMITTEE

The Association of Maltese Arms Collectors and Shooters (AMACS) held its 41st Annual General Meeting on 25 March. The meeting addressed key administrative and financial matters, with all reports approved by the members present.

Members were also briefed on recent local and international developments, followed by a constructive discussion on future initiatives for the Association.

As the number of nominations matched the available positions, four committee roles and one for president, the new Committee for the 2026–2027 term was elected unopposed and is composed as follows:

President – Mr. Stephen A. Petroni
A founding member of AMACS, Mr. Petroni is widely recognised as a pioneer of Malta’s sensible firearms legislation and remains active in promoting similar initiatives at European level. Although he had previously indicated his intention to step down, he has agreed to continue serving as President to support the incoming committee during its transition.

Secretary and Vice President – Mr. Mantoine D’Ambrogio
Mr. D’Ambrogio has served on previous committees and led the revision of the AMACS Statute in 2009. He brings extensive administrative expertise and will focus on strengthening the Association’s structures and its leadership role in sport and culture.

Treasurer – Mr. Raymond Haensch
Originally from Berlin, Mr. Haensch is a well-known presence at AMACS headquarters, where he organises events at the “Lawrence Darmanin” 10m indoor airgun range. He continues in his role as Treasurer, having served in this capacity over the past two committees.

Public Relations Officer – Dr Nicole Cannataci
Dr Cannataci, a lawyer with a growing passion for sport shooting, brings valuable professional experience to the role. She aims to enhance outreach efforts, particularly by encouraging greater female participation and addressing barriers to entry in the sport.

Sports Development & Integrity Officer – Mr. Karl Cortis
Mr. Cortis is a Senior Lecturer in Physical Education and Sport at the University of Malta, Junior College, as well as the Institute of Physical Education and Sport at the University of Malta. With extensive experience in sport education, he will focus on promoting sport shooting among students and supporting its development within an educational framework.
