MALTA POLICE FORCE CIRCULAR RE HEALTH CERTIFICATION & LICENCE RENEWALS
On 4 September 2025, the Association received an email from the Police announcing changes to the health certification requirement and the timely renewal of annual licences.
However, before circulating the Police instructions to our members, AMACS consulted the email’s author Supt Miruzzi Mula to clarify some points. We are now in a better position to relay the correct news and instructions.
Firstly, thanks to the cordial discussions between the Police and the three Federations (FACTS-FKNK-MSSF), Licensees shall be required to present a Health Certificate every five years, with the next time being for renewal of licences for 2030. However, if you would not renew your 2025 licences by the end of this year, you will still be required to submit a Health Certificate for 2026.
Secondly, the issue of late renewals is going to feature more prominently in the future as the Police eventually update their system and open for renewals before the beginning of each calendar year. Some licensees persist in dragging their feet when it comes to renewals, with some completing the process very late in the year. In legal terms, those who do so are keeping firearms unlawfully.
Thankfully, AMACS members have the chance to do their yearly membership renewal well before the start of every new year. We are planning to commence renewals for 2026 from 1st November 2025. The majority now opt for our efficient online renewal system, which allows you to renew from your laptop or phone and save/print the membership book and insurance certificate. If you have not tried this so far, give it a go and see how much time it will save you.
In conclusion, you are strongly advised to renew you AMACS membership before the end of 2025 so that you may then proceed to renew your Police licences as soon as they are open. Do not risk losing your firearms forever!
