MMSC covers muzzle-loading shooting sports, popularly known as ‘black powder’ shooting, which provided the spearhead for the introduction of target shooting sports in Malta, starting with the 1989 event held at Pembroke Ranges under the auspices of the Armed Forces of Malta and the invaluable support of Brig. Maurice Calleja. The target shooting community in Malta owes a lot to the pioneers of this first target shooting event.

This form of sport shooting virtually faded away as soon as it became possible to practice target shooting with modern breech-loading firearms. However, muzzle-loading shooting sports are experiencing a nostalgic revival.
